Here are the numbers for annual wholesale food price inflation in the past five years, beginning 2014-15: 5.6%, 2.6%, 4%, 2% and 0.4%. Under the watch of a government with a hawk-eyed policy on inflation, food prices have been kept under a tight lid. The latest spike in wholesale food prices is largely driven by seasonal factors, since the supply of green vegetables is lower now.
